About the Opportunity
Aga Khan Health Services (AKHST) is seeking a qualified and experienced Human Resource Officer to support its human capital functions in line with its high standards of service and excellence. The HR Officer will work closely with the HR Manager to ensure a healthy, productive, and compliant workplace that supports staff growth, engagement, and well-being.
This role is integral to maintaining smooth employee relations and effective HR operations in one of the region’s most respected health institutions.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:

Serve as the primary contact for employees and management regarding HR concerns, grievances, and workplace issues.

Offer guidance on labor laws, internal HR policies, and disciplinary procedures.

Conduct investigations into complaints or incidents and recommend appropriate action in line with company policy and national labor laws.

Promote employee engagement and wellness initiatives, including coordination of staff satisfaction surveys and improvement plans.

Prepare and maintain accurate HR records including disciplinary reports and employee relation cases.

Support implementation of Performance Management, including evaluations, probation monitoring, and PIP tracking.

Collaborate with administrative and finance departments to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.

Assist in recruitment and onboarding of new staff (full-time, LOCUMs, visiting consultants, and volunteers).

Maintain and update employee files, job descriptions, and employment contracts.

Ensure compliance with all licensing and registration requirements for clinical staff.

Assist in internal and external HR audits (e.g., JCIA, SafeCare).

Provide regular HR reports for decision-making and participate in leadership engagement forums such as quarterly CEO forums.

Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, or a related field.

Experience: At least 5 years in HR roles within reputable organizations.

Technical Skills:

Deep understanding of Tanzanian labor laws and HR best practices.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.

Soft Skills:

Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.

Strong emotional intelligence, confidentiality, and integrity.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
